Holmfirth Flood Relief Fund Claims

Only 65 of the 110 families, the contents of whose homes were damaged by the Holmfirth flood, have so far made claims on the flood relief fund, although the official closing day for such claims was last Wednesday

The claimants have sent in lists of the articles destroyed or damaged, and an assessor is visiting them to estimate the losses they have suffered. Their claims will be met first.

Owners of one-man businesses will have second call on the relief fund. Losses incurred by them are likely to total between £7,000 and £10,000.

No arrangements have been made for meeting millowners’ losses, which run into hundreds of thousands of pounds, nor has any authority accepted responsibility for clearing silt and stones from the River Holme, work that may cost another £100,000.

The flood relief fund now totals £13,500.
