Huddersfield's Next Civic Leaders

Huddersfield's next Mayor and Mayoress are to be Councillor and Mrs. Wilfrid Mallinson, Meadow Croft, Dryclough Road, Crosland Moor.

Councillor Mallinson, who is chairman of Messrs. Henry Brook and Co., Ltd., structural engineers and iron founders, of Colne Road and Leeds Road. Huddersfield, was elected to the Council in May, 1940, and has served the Lockwood Ward ever since.

A Liberal, he was chairman of the Gas Committee before nationalisation and is deputy chairman of the Sewage Works Committee. Other Council committees of which he is a member are the Highways, Town Planning. Watch, Waterworks, Welfare and Estate. He is also a member of the North-Eastern Gas Consultative Council.

In December Councillor Mallinson retired from the presidency of the West Riding Iron Pounders' Association.

Councillor Mallinson has had a lifelong connection with the firm of which he is now chairman, starting as an apprentice moulder. The late Alderman J. W. Mallinson, his father, served on the Town Council for 14 years.

Mrs. Mallinson's father, the late Councillor J. W. Lawton, was a member of the Council for nine years.

A member of the Connaught and Constancy Lodges of Freemasons, Councillor Mallinson has been a member for many years of the Huddersfield Cricket and Athletic Club. He is also a member of the Huddersfield R.U.F.C.

Councillor and Mrs. Mallinson have twin daughters.
