An interesting old Holmfirth monument, known locally as "The Old Genn," was yesterday re-erected on a new site in Towngate, Holmfirth. The memorial was first erected in 1801 to commemorate the Peace of Amiens, and later a brass plate was fixed to it indicating the height of the disastrous Holmfirth flood in 1852, in which 78 lives were lost.
