The Woodman Inn was opened round about the same time. Two brothers had successfully backed a horse named Blair Athol which won the Derby and St. Leger double in 1864. They built the Woodman Inn and two shops in Whitehead Road. They did not keep the Inn long, and it changed hands several times before being bought by its present owners in 1902.
