The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

GILBY, WILLIE. Private. No 18634. 9th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born Hay Green, Marsden 23.5.1893. Educated Spring Grove Council School. Employed as a warehouseman. Single. At the time of enlistment, was living at 5 Kirk Place, Trinity Street, Huddersfield. Enlisted 28.1.1916. Killed in action on the Somme, 7.7.1916, aged 23 years. Buried GORDON DUMP CEMETERY. Grave location:- Plot 3, Row E, Grave 4.
