Willie Beckwith (c.1893-1918)

Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

BECKWITH, WILLIE. Private. No 30/393. 12th/13th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. Born Southwark, London. Son of John and Sarah Beckwith, 6 Bankgate, Slaithwaite. Employed as a butcher by the Huddersfield Cooperative Society. Attended the Carr Lane Methodist Church, Slaithwaite. Engaged to Constance of the Albion Hotel, Buxton Road. Enlisted May 1916. Embarked for France August, 1916. Wounded in the right leg by a bullet on 28.5.1918 and died in the No 6 Canadian Hospital at Troyes on 11.6.1918, aged 24 years. Buried in PERREUSE CHATEAU FRANCO BRITISH NATIONAL CEMETERY. Grave location:- Plot 1, Row A, Grave 48.
