Biography
He was born circa 1793, possibly in Leicestershire.
He married Ann Bentley, eldest daughter of Lockwood Brewery founder Timothy Bentley, in April 1815 at All Hallows, Almondbury. The couple had three known children:
- Bentley Shaw (1816-1878)
- Jane Shaw (1817-?)[1]
- Mary Ann Shaw (1823-?)[2]
He likely built Woodfield House at Lockwood as his family home.
Following the death of his father-in-law in 1830, he became manager of the brewery.
Ann died in September 1838 aged 44.[3]
William Shaw died on 30 September 1840 aged 47 whilst visiting the Isle of Man "for the benefit of his health".[4] His body was returned to Lockwood where he was buried alongside his wife.
