The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:
- DARLINGTON, WILLIAM. Private. No 32619. 8th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment. Born Rastrick 1883. Educated Longroyd Council School, Rastrick. Employed as a chemical worker by Messrs Robert McAlpine and Sons. Husband of Alice Darlington, 44 Bradley Mills, Leeds Road, Huddersfield. Enlisted 10.2.1917. Killed in action near Ypres, Belgium, 13.7.1917. Buried RAILWAY DUGOUTS (TRANSPORT FARM) BURIAL GROUND. Grave location:- Special Memorial C 4.
- ROH:- St. Andrew's Church, Leeds Road, Huddersfield; commemorated on his parents' headstone in Edgerton Cemetery, Huddersfield.
