The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

SIMS, WILLIAM CHARLES. Lance Corporal. No 19673. 8th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment. Born Islington, Middlesex. Adopted son of Mr and Mrs Ashton, Wildspur Bottom, New Mill, Holmfirth. Employed at Wood Pit. Was a member of New Mill Working Men's Club. Enlisted St. Pancras, London, at the outbreak of the war. Embarked for France in September, 1915. Killed in action, 20.11.1917, aged 21 years. Buried VILLERS-PLOUICH COMMUNAL CEMETERY. Grave location:- Row A, Grave 18.
