Notes and References

  1. Private #15210 in the Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Died on 30 July 1916 aged 21.
  2. George Bray.
  3. Fought with the Leicestershire Regiment. Died of heart failure.
  4. Worked as a woollen manufacturer. Discharged in December 1917 suffering from tuberculosis.
  5. Robert Frogatt.
  6. Possibly Andrew Greenwood (c.1900-1918) who was buried at Holmfirth.
  7. Fred Hill.
  8. Matthew Lockwood.
  9. He moved to Australia prior to the war breaking out and joined the army there. However, during the training, an underlying heart condition was discovered. He died in 1917 aged 33. Source: History of Netherthong.
  10. Served in the Northumberland Fusiliers but was discharged after loosing 4 toes to frost bite and suffering epileptic fits. He died in February 1920 after apparently injuring his head during a fit whilst walking home from work. Source: History of Netherthong.
