Category:Victims of the Holmfirth Flood of 1852

This page is part of the Holmfirth Flood Project which aims to make content available to researchers in advance of the 175th anniversary of the 1852 Flood which will be commemorated in 2027.

The following are known victims of the Holmfirth Flood of 1852. In total, there were 78 named victims. Married women are listed under their married surname rather than their maiden name.

The bodies of three children — two girls and one boy — remained unidentified after the inquest held by district coroner George Dyson on Friday 6 February. With no facilities to store the bodies so that they could be viewed for longer, they were released for burial. It is almost certain that the eldest girl was Ann Bailey. The identities of the other two remain unknown.

The body of Joseph Marsden was seemingly never found. It remains uncertain if the body of Emor Charlesworth was recovered since there are no newspaper references to his burial nor any matching burial records.
