Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

FRANCE, TOM. Corporal. No 27716. 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment. Born Slaithwaite. Son of the late Fred and of Sarah France, Bank Bottom Farm, Marsden. Attended Lingards Wood Bottom Sunday School and a member of Marsden Liberal Club. Employed in the warehouse of Messrs Fisher, Firth and Company, Cellars Clough Mills. Enlisted 5.8.1914. For some time acted as bombing instructor in an English training camp. He embarked for France on Easter Monday, 1917. Killed in action, 24.4.1918. Has no known grave. Commemorated POZIERES MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
