Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

SHAW, THOMAS HAROLD. Lance Corporal. No 241615. 2/5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born 37 Kings Mill Lane, Huddersfield, 25.1.1894. Both parents deceased: Thomas Shaw, died 18.4.1917; mother, Hannah Shaw, died 4.10.1917. Educated Stile Common Board School, Primrose Hill, Huddersfield. Employed as a shop assistant by Messrs Whitfield Brothers, drapers, Manchester Road, Huddersfield. Attended Buxton Road Sunday School. Single. Enlisted 17.3.1916. Killed in action at the Battle of Cambrai, 27.11.1917, just ten days after his return from home leave. Has no known grave. Commemorated CAMBRAI MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
