Though not mentioned in Mr. Shirley's work, some of these lands have been in Mr. Beaumont's family since the Conquest


RAMSDEN, Sir John William, Bart., of Byram, Ferry Bridge, &c.

Born 1831, succeeded 1839, married 1865.

Lincoln — 800 acres, gross annual value of £1,400
York, West Riding — 11,248 acres, gross annual value of £168,420
Inverness — 138,000 acres, gross annual value of £11,474

Served as Under Secretary for War.

Sat for Taunton, Hythe, the W.R., and Monmouth. Sits for E. Div. of W.R.

Inclusive of a rental of £1,819 belonging to Hon. Mrs. Ramsden, his mother. This is one of the cases specially noted in the return, where (in Yorkshire) the gross estimated rental forms no criterion of the income received by the landlord.
