Biography

Stanley Chadwick was born on 1 December 1905, the son of Edith Stead Chadwick, and was baptised on 15 July 1906 at St. Mary's Church, Honley.[1]

He was recorded as a 5-year-old boarder at the home of warehouseman Albert Bell and his wife Joysee at 1 Jim Lane, Marsh, in the 1911 Census.

The 1939 Register recorded him as a "compositor stereotyper (letterpress printing)" residing at 5 Gramfield Road, Huddersfield, with his mother and retired card setting machine tester Benjamin Clayton.[2]

He continued to live on Gramfield Road until his death on 11 June 1988 in a house fire.[3]

Notes and References

  1. His father's name is not given in the baptismal registry entry and Edith was recorded as being a single woman (and a spinster in later records). Edith was born in 1872 at Dodsworth, Barnsley, the daughter of Pamela Chadwick (likely illegitimate). The 1881 Census records her living with her grandmother, dress maker Hannah Chadwick, and her cousin Gertrude Aspinall Chadwick (who married Edgar Burhouse on 1 February 1900).
  2. Edith was recorded as a widow, but this is likely an error as she was named as a spinster when she acted as an executor of Benjamin's Will in 1940.
  3. He did not leave a Last Will & Testament. No claims were made on his estate and it eventually reverted to the Crown.
