Historic England Listing

SHAW FIELD. West Slaithwaite. No 5 and Barn. Late C18. House and barn, part of farm terrace. Thinly coursed hammer dressed stone. Quoins to barn. Pitched stone slate roof. 2 storeys. Farmhouse: south elevation has: ground floor; one 4-light stone mullioned window (recessed) (2 mullions removed). First floor: one 3-light and one 4-light stone mullioned window (recessed). North elevation: back to earth. Barn: south elevation: large central doorway with segmental arched head and large quoins with small vent over. Single lights to either side (one of later date). Small doorway with stone surrounds and tie-stones with small light over and one to side. West gable has: single light (blocked) in apex of gable, with water tabling over.

South elevation has: ground floor; one 5-light and one former 2-light stone mullioned window (recessed) (mullion removed from the latter). First floor; one 3-light and one former 2-light stone mullioned windows (recessed, mullion removed from the latter.) East gable has: ground floor; stone lean-to extension and modern porch. First floor; one 3-light stone mullioned window (recessed). North elevation: back to earth. Included for group value.

Coped gable to west. 2 storeys. South elevation has: ground floor; one 4-light and one 2-light stone mullioned window. Single light and entrance with stone surrounds to west end of mid C19. First floor; one 6-light stone mullioned window. One 2-light stone mullioned window (mid C19 with pronounced sill), to west end. North elevation has: ground floor; back to earth. First floor; one 3-light stone mullioned window (now blocked). West gable has: two single lights.
