History

Schofield & Taylor Ltd. were engineers and millwrights who were based at Perseverance Iron Works, Turnbridge, Huddersfield.

An undated letterhead gave their telephone number as Huddersfield 120 and advertised their services as including:

  • Makers of High-Class Corliss Engines
  • Air Pumps and Cylinders Bored Out and Pistons Fitted in Without Removing
  • Engines Indicated and Reported Upon

The majority of the shares in the company were acquired by W.C. Holmes & Co., Ltd. in 1947.[1]

A surviving example of one of their mill engines — known as "Elizabeth" — can be found at Wortley Top Forge Industrial Museum.[2]
