The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

BOOTH, ROLAND HARTLEY. Boy 1st Class. No J/24104. Royal Navy. HMS Hawke. Born Huddersfield, 1897. Son of Arthur Newsome and Ruthetta Booth, 177 Newsome Road, Huddersfield. Educated at Almondbury Grammar School. Enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1913. Killed in action involving a submarine in the North Sea, 15.10.1914, aged 17 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated on PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
