River Colne

The River Colne is a river formed by a confluence at the foot of the Pennines near the village of Marsden.

The river flows eastwards through the Colne Valley, passing through Marsden, Slaithwaite, Milnsbridge, Huddersfield and then to Cooper Bridge where it joins the River Calder.

The river's tributaries includes Wessenden Brook, Bradley Brook, Crimble Brook and the River Holme, which joins the Colne near Folly Hall, Huddersfield.

  • On the evening 14 December 1854, Marsden teenager Sarah Ann Lumb accidentally fell into the river and was drowned. Her body was eventually recovered in Mirfield three weeks later.
