Following the discovery of an underground water acquifer, a water pumping house and 1,250,000 gallon covered reservoir were constructed circa 1903 to provide water to the nearby Storthes Hall Asylum. In times of drought, the reservoir was topped up with water from the Huddersfield Corporation supply.[1]
