Porritt and Riley (Huddersfield)
Porritt & Riley were a cotton and cotton waste business with offices on Queen Street, Huddersfield.
The Yorkshire Post (03/Oct/1922) carried the following article:
NEW PRESIDENT OF THE LIVERPOOL COTTON ASSOCIATION.
A HUDDERSFIELD CONNECTION.
Mr. Edward Porritt, of Porritt, Riley, and Sons, cotton brokers, the Albany, Liverpool, will be the new president of the Liverpool Cotton Association, succeeding Mr. J.H. Clegg on the 9th inst. Mr. Porritt has been associated with the cotton trade for more than 40 years, and is identified more particularly with the Egyptian market. In 1879 he established himself in the Huddersfield as a cotton and yarn merchant, and coming to Liverpool in 1887, he started the firm of Hughes, Porritt, and Co., now Porritt, Riley, and Sons with the allied house of Porritt and Riley of Huddersfield.
