Percy Vellenoweth (1869-1919)

An ongoing project to commemorate and research the lives of those who appear on war memorials and rolls of honour in the local area, who served in the military, or whose deaths were linked to conflict.

Percy Vellenoweth was born in Chelsea, London, the son of Arthur William Vellenoweth and his wife Louisa (née Durant).

He married Georgina Helen Desnaux on 22 March 1899. The couple had one known child:

  • Dorothy "Dory" Vellenoweth (1902-1995)

He enlisted and served under the name "Percy Arnold". In the Army Register of Solders' Effects, he is recorded as "Percy Arnold (alias Vellenoweth)" with a note that his death was due to "illness" at the "War Hosp[ital] Huddersfield".

His brother Sydney emigrated to Canada in the 1890s and served in the Canadian Army (under the name Sydney Beck) during the First World War.

Georgina Helen Vellenoweth died in 1957.
