Percy Nowell (c.1891-1917)

An ongoing project to commemorate and research the lives of those who appear on war memorials and rolls of honour in the local area, who served in the military, or whose deaths were linked to conflict.

Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

NOWELL, PERCY. Private. No 32035. 20th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. Born Shelley. Son of Mr Bob Nowell, Bankside, Shelley. Attended Shelley United Methodist Church. Employed by Messrs Firth Brothers. Enlisted July 1916. Wounded in December, 1916. On recovering from his wounds he returned to France, Whitsuntide, 1917. Killed in action, 31.7.1917, aged 26 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated MENIN GATE MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
