Norman Franklin Aspinall (1890-1918)

An ongoing project to commemorate and research the lives of those who appear on war memorials and rolls of honour in the local area, who served in the military, or whose deaths were linked to conflict.

Norman Franklin Aspinall was the son of insurance agent Elliott Aspinall and his wife Eliza (née Buckley).

At the time of the 1901 Census, the family was living at Armitage Fold, Armitage Bridge, where Norman attended the local National School. By 1911, the family had moved to 7 Back Lane, Horbury, and Norman had found work as a warehouseman for a rag merchant.

He served as a stretcher bearer in the Royal Fusiliers during the First World War and died on 21 March 1918.

His service number is variously recorded as GS/64254, 5726 and 242340, and he appears to have been residing at Leake Street, Normanton, at the time he enlisted.
