The Newsome Ward is an extant electoral ward formed in 1908 as part of the County Borough of Huddersfield when the Almondbury & Newsome Ward was abolished. The ward initially covered the same area as the former Newsome Local Board District.
Under the West Riding Review Order of 1937, the Newsome Ward was expanded to include Armitage Bridge.
As of 2018, the Newsome Ward of the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees includes the centre of Huddersfield along with Longley and Lower Houses.
