Nelson Winterbottom (1886-1917)

Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

WINTERBOTTOM, NELSON. Lance Corporal. No 241012. 2/5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born 22.8.1886. Educated Mount Pleasant Council School. Married. Lived 69 Swift's Buildings, Moorend, Lockwood, Huddersfield. Was a chimney sweep with his father at Yew Green, Lockwood. Enlisted 11.2.1915. Killed in action on 27.11.1917 at Bourlon Wood during the Battle of Cambrai. Has no known grave. Commemorated CAMBRAI MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
