Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

THORPE, NED. Sergeant. No 240330. 2/5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born Underbank, Holmfirth. Son of Mr and Mrs Sam Thorpe, of Underbank. Attended Holmfirth Parish Church Day and Sunday Schools. Was a member of the Underbank football club. Had been employed at Dover Mills, Washpit Mills and later at Neiley Mills, Honley. Enlisted at the outbreak of the war. Embarked for France in January, 1917. Killed in action at the Battle of Cambrai on 27.11.1917, aged 23 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated CAMBRAI MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
