The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:
- GALLAGHER, MICHAEL. Rifleman. No B/203508. 1st Battalion The Rifle Brigade. Formerly No C/7623 King's Royal Rifle Corps. Born 7 Swallow Street, Huddersfield. Brother of Margaret Ann Gannon, 4 Quay Street, Huddersfield. Educated St. Patrick's Roman Catholic School. Employed as a dyer's labourer by the Westfield Cotton Company. Single. Enlisted 13.11.1915. Embarked for France in June, 1916. Killed in action on the Somme, 19.10.1916, aged 25 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
