Loyal "Friendly Call" Lodge No. 499 of the Independent Order of Oddfellows (Manchester Unity)

The Loyal "Friendly Call" Lodge (No. 499) was a lodge of the Independent Order of Oddfellows (Manchester Unity) formed in 1831 at South Crosland.

History

The 19th anniversary meeting was held at the Fleece Inn on Whit Monday 1850, with Past Grand (P.G.) James Whiteley as chairman. The annual report was read by P.G. John Radcliff and entertainment was provided by the Golcar Brass and Quadrille Band.[1]

The Lodge financed the building of the Oddfellows' Hall in Netherton in 1854, although the first attempt was abandoned when the foundations subsided during construction.
