ORDER OF THE REGISTRAR-GENERAL IN ENGLAND.

Whereas the Superintendent Registrar's district of Halifax is situate partly within and partly without the County Borough of Halifax;

And whereas the part of the aforesaid Superintendent Registrar's district and the sub-districts and part of a sub-district comprised therein which are situate without the aforesaid County Borough will on the 1st day of April, 1938, in consequence of and by virtue of the Halifax Registration Scheme, 1938, made by the Council of the County Borough of Halifax and approved by the Minister of Health under Section 24 of the Local Government Act, 1929 become a separate Superintendent Registrar's district and sub-districts respectively situate wholly without the said County Borough;

And whereas it is expedient that provision should be made for the said separate Superintendent Registrar's district to be divided into two Superintendent Registrars' districts, for the union of one of the Superintendent Registrar's districts so formed with another contiguous Superintendent Registrar's district and for the re-arrangement of the sub-districts comprised within the united Superintendent Registrar's district, for the naming of the other Superintendent Registrar's district so formed, and for the re-arrangement of the sub-districts comprised therein;

And whereas it is necessary to transfer the functions .under the Registration Acts in relation to the part of the Superintendent Registrar's district of Halifax which is situate without the County Borough of Halifax;

Now, therefore, the Registrar-General of Births, Deaths and Marriages in England in exercise of the powers conferred by Sections 10 and ii of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1837, Section 21 of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1874, Section 21 (2) of the Local Government Act, 1929, and of all other powers in that behalf, with the approval and sanction of the Minister of Health, hereby orders as follows:—

1 — (1) This Order may be cited as the Halifax, Huddersfield and York West Riding Registration of Births, etc., Order, 1938, and shall come into operation on the 1st day of April, 1938.

(2) In this Order the term "district" means a Superintendent Registrar's district, and the terms "existing district" and "existing sub-district" mean a district or sub-district which existed immediately before the 1st day of April, 1938.

2. That part of the existing Halifax district which will on the 1st day of April, 1938, become a separate district situate wholly without the County Borough of Halifax shall, be divided into two districts, of which one consisting of that part of the existing Halifax district which is within the County Borough of Huddersfield shall be united with the existing Huddersfield district, and the other consisting of that part of the existing Halifax district which is within the Administrative County of York West Riding shall be called the Calder district.

3. — (1) That part of the Lindley Ward of the County Borough of Huddersfield now included in the Brighouse sub-district which immediately prior to the operation of the County of York, West Riding Review Order, 1937, formed part of the parish of Fixby and that part of the County Borough of Huddersfield now included in the Elland sub-district which immediately prior to the operation of the aforementioned Order formed part of the parish of Stainland with Old Lindley shall be added to and form part of the Lockwood sub-district.

(2) That part of the County Borough of Huddersfield now included in the Brighouse sub-district which immediately prior to the operation of the County of York, West Riding Review Order, 1937, formed parts of the parishes of Brighouse and Fixby and is not included in the Lindley Ward of the County Borough of Huddersfield shall be added to and form part of the Huddersfield sub-district.

(3) The parish of Queensbury and Shelf now included in the Halifax North sub-district shall be added to and form part of the Brighouse sub-district.

4. The Superintendent Registrar of the existing Huddersfield district shall be the Superintendent Registrar of that district as extended by Article 2 of this Order.

5. The registrars of the existing Brighouse, Huddersfield and Lockwood sub-districts shall respectively be the registrars of those sub-districts as altered or extended by this Order.

6. The functions under the Registration Acts in relation to that part of the existing Halifax district which is united with the existing Huddersfield district by Article 2 of this Order are hereby transferred to the Council of the County Borough of Huddersfield.

7. The functions under the Registration Acts in relation to that part of the existing Halifax district which is named the Calder district by Article 2 of this Order are hereby transferred to the Council of the Administrative County of York, West Riding.
