The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

SYKES, LEWIS. Private. No 17344. 10th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born Spring Street, Huddersfield, 25.1.1887. Educated Spring Grove Council School. Married. Lived 2 Waterworth's Yard, Cross Grove Street, Huddersfield. Employed as a dyer's labourer by Messrs C. and J. Hirst and Sons Limited, Longwood. Enlisted 12.7.1915. Killed in action in Belgium on 7.6.1917, aged 30 years. Buried WOODS CEMETERY, ZILLEBEKE, BELGIUM. Grave location:- Plot 3, Row E, Grave 15.
