Lavinia Crowther (c.1841-1857)

Lavinia Crowther was one of twelve people killed by a boiler explosion at Upper Aspley Mill on the afternoon of 23 November 1857.

Biography

She was the daughter of Linthwaite-born brewer William Crowther and his wife Margaret.

By the time of the 1851 Census, her family was residing at 15 Water Gate, Huddersfield, and presumably her father worked at Watergate Brewery.

Lavinia was killed when the boiler at Upper Aspley Mill exploded at around 2:10pm on 23 November 1857, demolishing part of the mill.
