Kirkheaton Mental Improvement Society

The Kirkheaton Mental Improvement Society was formed in 1849 or early 1850 in connection with the local Independent Chapel.[1]

At the first annual soirée, held in March 1851 in the Independent Chapel's school rooms, Henry Dyson's report noted that the institution currently had 56 scholars attending the evening classes.[2]
