"Winky" Comedy Pioneer Passes

A link with the early pioneer days of British films has gone with the death of Edwin Bamforth, managing director of Bamforth, Ltd., picture postcard makers, of Station Road, Holmfirth.

Prior to the Great War the Bamforths — whose business was founded by the late James Bamforth — made many short films of the popular type at Holmfirth, and amongst them were the “Winky” comedies, which had a substantial vogue.
