Joseph William Sheard (1895-1917)

Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

SHEARD, JOSEPH WILLIAM. Corporal. No 12990. 8th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born Blackley, near Elland, 7.5.1895. Son of Mrs Mary Ann Catton, 6 Birkby Lodge Road, Birkby, Huddersfield. Educated St. Patrick's Roman Catholic School, New North Road, Huddersfield. Employed as a gas engine teneter by Messrs Thewlis, Jagger and Company, Chapel Hill, Huddersfield. Single. Enlisted 16.8.1915. Killed in action at Passchendaele on 9.10.1917, aged 27 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated TYNE COT MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.

Brother of Private JOHN EDWARD SHEARD killed in action, 7.7.1916, and ROBERT HENRY SHEARD who died on 5.2.1920.
