Joseph Graham (1837-1895)
Joseph Graham was a stone merchant's contractor and farmer who lived in the Crosland Moor area.
Biography
He was born on 5 December 1837, the son of stone mason and builder Abraham Graham and his wife Harriet (née Wiglesworth), and was baptised on 31 December at Huddersfield Parish Church.
He married Sarah Ann Barrow in 1865.
Joseph likely initially worked for his father in the firm of Abraham Graham & Sons and is named as a "stone merchant's contractor" in the 1871 Census.
By 1881, he was farming Thewlis Lane Farm on Crosland Hill (also known locally as "Barley Misery"), taking over from his brother Tom who had moved to the nearby Dryclough Farm.
Joseph Graham died on 22 September 1895, aged 57. He left effects worth around £825 to his widow, who then moved to live with relatives in Halifax.
