John William Brown (1897-1917)

Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922
The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:
- BROWN, JOHN WILLIAM. Private. No 242857. 1/5th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment. Born 15 Castlegate, Huddersfield, 26.11.1897. Son of John William and Ada Brown, 23 Zetland Street, Huddersfield. Educated at the Huddersfield Parish Church School and was a member of the pierrot troupe at the school. Employed as a hairdresser by Mr John Hoyle at his hairdressing saloon in Beast Market, Huddersfield. Single. Enlisted 9.9.1916. Gassed at Nieuport, 19.7.1917, and died of the effects of gas poisoning at Le Treport, 9.8.1917, aged 19 years. Buried in MONT HUON MILITARY CEMETERY, LE TREPORT. Grave location:- Plot 3, Row B, Grave 9a.
