Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

MARSDEN, JOHN. Private. No 19158. 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters. Born Holme, Holmfirth. Son of the late Mr George Marsden of Flowery Field, Hade Edge. Had worked as a quarryman, both at Magnum and in Derbyshire. Prior to enlistment, lived in Birkby, Huddersfield. Attended Hade Edge Wesleyan School and Chapel. Had served in France for a year when he was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme on 30.7.1916, aged 34 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
