Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

SINGLETON, JOHN HERBERT. Private. No 4872. 1/5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born 21 Lowergate, Longwood, Huddersfield, 9.4.1889. Son of Henry and Mary Singleton, 21 Lowergate, Longwood. Educated Paddock Council School. Employed as a woollen piecer by Messrs C. and J. Hirst of Longwood. Single. Enlisted 14.2.1916. Killed in action by shellfire on 16.9.1916, aged 27 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
