The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

CLEARY, JOHN. Driver. Royal Field Artillery. Born Westport, County Mayo, Ireland. Educated at Huddersfield schools. Husband of Sarah Cleary, 2 Kayes Square, Quay Street, Huddersfield. Employed as a hawker. Enlisted 22.8.1914. Discharged as physically unfit, 21.2.1918. Died of pneumonia at 2 Kayes Square, Quay Street, Huddersfield, on 9.7.1918.
