The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

BATTYE, JOHN. Private. No 19416. 2nd Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born Kirkburton. Son of Mr Edgar Battye, Tatt Row, Kirkburton. Enlisted 2.3.1916. Killed in action, 12.10.16, aged 29 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
ROH:- All Hallows Parish Church, Kirkburton.
