The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

ECCLESBY, JOE. Private. No 242449. 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment. Born Well Head, Almondbury, 4.12.1886. Educated Almondbury Church of England School. Employed as a mechanic's labourer. Married. At the time of enlistment, was living at 32 Back Ivy Street, Moldgreen. Enlisted 16.10.1916. Reported missing, presumed killed, 29.5.1918, aged 31. Has no known grave. Commemorated SOISSONS MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
