The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

RAE, JAMES. 2nd Lieutenant. 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders. Born Dublin 15.6.1887. Son of Mr and Mrs Adam Rae, Castle Douglas, Scotland. Educated Castle Douglas Academy. Was in business as a heraldic stationer and printer at 31 John William Street, Huddersfield. Lived 21 Wentworth Street, Huddersfield. Married. Enlisted, 1.12.1915, in the 2/28th Battalion The London Regiment. Commissioned into the Seaforth Highlanders on 27.3.1917. Embarked for France on 18.6.1917. Killed in action at Passchendaele on 4.10.1917. Has no known grave. Commemorated TYNE COT MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
