The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:
- GORDGE, JAMES. Lance Corporal. No 17419. 10th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born Bury 9.8.1878. Educated at St. Thomas's School, Huddersfield. Employed as a boiler firer. Husband of Elizabeth Ann Gordge, 58 Thomas Street, off Northgate, Huddersfield. Enlisted 16.8.1915. Killed during the Battle of the Somme, 10.7.1916, aged 37 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
