An ongoing project to commemorate and research the lives of those who appear on war memorials and rolls of honour in the local area, who served in the military, or whose deaths were linked to conflict.
Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922
The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:
- BLAKELEY, JAMES EDWARD, MM. Sergeant. No 305907. 2/5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Lived 2 Lane, Lingards, Slaithwaite. Enlisted at the outbreak of the war. Had served four and a half years with the Colours. Awarded the MM, 16.7.1918. Came home from France with the Cadre of the 1/5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment a week before he died of pneumonia, on 14.5.1919, aged 22 years. Buried with full military honours in SLAITHWAITE CEMETERY. Grave location:- B, 3, 111.
