James Alfred Hinchliffe (1891-1917)

Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

HINCHLIFFE, JAMES ALFRED. Acting Sergeant. No 67000. 92nd Battery, Royal Field Artillery. Born 9 Birkby Hall Road, Birkby, 11.3.1891. Lived with his Aunt, Mrs Thorpe, at 11 Birkby Hall Road, Birkby. Educated Hillhouse Board School. Employed as a porter at Huddersfield Railway Station. Enlisted in the army in August, 1911. Served in the Dardenelles. Killed in action, 12.4.1917, aged 26. Buried TILLOY BRITISH CEMETERY. Grave location:- Plot 4, Row B, Grave 9.
ROH:- Fartown and Birkby War Memorial; commemorated on his parents' headstone in Edgerton Cemetery.
