The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:
- GARTHWAITE, JACK. Private. No 95157. Royal Fusiliers, posted to 2nd/2nd Battalion (London Regiment) Royal Fusiliers. Born Bradley Mills 23.12.1898. Son of James and Florence Garthwaite, of 24 Lane End, Dalton, Huddersfield. Educated at Kirkheaton Schools. Employed as an under-spinner by Messrs J. Fenton and Sons Limited, Bradley Mills. Single. Enlisted 2.4.1917. Wounded 20.9.1918. Died of his wounds at No 2 Stationary Hospital, Abbeville, 23.10.1918, aged 19 years. Buried ABBEVILLE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION. Grave location:- Plot 4, Row J, Grave 1.
- ROH:- St. John's Church, Kirkheaton; commemorated on headstone in Kirkheaton Cemetery.
