The South Central Ward in Huddersfield was formed in 1908[1] as part of the County Borough of Huddersfield, replacing the Huddersfield East and Huddersfield South wards.

The boundary of the ward was substantially altered in 1937.

As of 2018, the area of the former South Central Ward is covered by the Newsome Ward of the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees.
