ALMONDBURY

Meeting of the Local Board.

A special meeting of the Local Board was held on Wednesday evening, to consider a circular from the Huddersfield Improvement Commissioners requesting deputation of the Board to meet the conference of the Commissioners and deputations from other Local Boards on Wednesday next. Mr. J. F. Brigg occupied the chair. The minutes and proceedings of the monthly meeting held in April having been read and confirmed, the clerk (Mr. J. R. Sykes) read the monthly financial statement, which was unanimously adopted. A conversation ensued on the subject of the proposed charter of incorporation for Huddersfield, and the propriety of convening a public meeting to ascertain the opinion of the inhabitants on the subject. The general impression seemed to be that no decisive opinion ought to be expressed until the Board was in possession of information as to the advantages which would accrue from a charter of incorporation. At the conclusion of the discussion Messrs. Brigg, Riley, and Arlom were appointed a deputation to attend the conference on Wednesday next, and report the result to a future meeting. This concluded the business.
