Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

SYKES, HERBERT. Private. No 3971. 1/7th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born Linthwaite. Son of the late Mr Bradley Sykes and Mrs Sykes, Coldwell Street, Linthwaite. Employed by the Colne Valley Spinning Company Limited. Enlisted March 1916. Killed in action at Thiepval Wood during the Battle of the Somme on 14.7.1916, aged 19 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
